Kogi Is Not An IDP Camp For Civil Servants, Group Warns Gov Bello

A political pressure group, Kogi Renaissance Group, KRG, has warned Governor ‎Yahaya Bello not to turn the state into an emergency Internally Displaced Persons, IDP, camp where the state civil servants have become refugees in their own state owing to non-payment of backlog of salaries of over five months and the insistence of the government that civil servants, both at state and local government level to operate unsolicited accounts with Access and Zenith Banks designated as salary points for the Kogi state workforce.
Abdulhamid Nuhu, the spokesperson of the group, gave the warning during a media chat with select journalists in Lokoja.
Nuhu frowned against the attitude of the present administration whom he alleged has turned the state civil servants and local government to refugees in their own state by subjecting them into operating unsolicited accounts with Access and Zenith banks against the rules of engagement with backlog of salary arrears of five months even after accessing funds from the federation account and ‎20 billion naira bailout fund meant for the payment of salaries of Kogi workers.
He debunked the media reports going round the state that the three months additional salaries of the workers is ready for disbursement. He described the claims as blatant lies and usual media propaganda under current administration to create uneasy calm in the state and an attempt to break the rank and files of the state labour congress.
Nuhu insisted that Governor Yahaya Bello has diverted the bail out fund because of the uncertainties surrounding his ascension of the governorship seat, saying series of protests from students union to civil servants and other pressure groups is an indication that all is not well with the accounts of the state.
The body advised stakeholders in the Kogi project to rise up to the challenges of maladministration instituted since the inception of Yahaya Bello’s administration, stating that their inactions does not mean well for the welfare and development of the state.
He challenged the civil society groups and non-governmental organisations to show genuine concern towards the advancement of the state if truly there have not been bought over by the present regime. He said their silence fall short of expectations
The body enjoined the state workforce to be magnanimous in their struggle and display more patriotism out of frustration from the government of Alhaji Yahaya Bello, saying the day of reckoning is near as they will soon be liberated.
