Normalcy
will soon return to the Kogi state civil service as government has at
last resolved to set up a committee to look into the issues at stake
with a view to end the lingering strike action embarked upon by workers.
This
was disclosed by the state commissioner for Information, Culture and
Tourism, Mohammed Awwal while briefing journalists at the end of the
weekly state executive council meeting in Lokoja.
According
to the commissioner, the state Deputy Governor, Mr. Simon Achuba is to
mediate on the peace committee which is expected to commence with
immediate effect.
“The
current face-off between the organised labour and the state government
is a family issue which the council believes is capable of being solved
amicably in the interest of the good people of Kogi state. We have to
disagree to agree to enable the state move forward”, the commissioner
explained.
The
commissioner also reiterated the council’s determination to ensure that
the welfare of workers in the state will continue to received the
desired attention.
On
the burning issue of the warring two communities in Ibaji Local
Government Area, the commissioner told journalists that the council at
its meeting also resolved that a peace committee be constituted to look
into the problem with a view to finding lasting solution.
Awal
further informed Newsmen that the council deliberated on the need to
construct a Bridge across the River Niger through Bassa Local Government
Area to Lokoja, the state capital.
The
idea if materialized at the end of the day, according to the
commissioner will not only boost commercial activities within and
outside the state but also ensure free transportation of goods and
services from rural to urban areas.
The
commissioner said the council equally considered the establishment of
Ministry of Energy Resources geared towards ensuring improvement in
power sector.
The
commissioner also announced the approval for the reconstitution of
Boards appointments that would hasten efficient governance in the state.
He
said approval was also given for the disbursement of agricultural loans
to farmers in the state to enhance their farming activities.
