Jose Mourinho has warned Juventus that Manchester United have other options if they fail to sign Paul Pogba in a world record deal worth more than £100million.
United
are understood to have raised their offer for Pogba to £92m, but Juve
are holding out for more and want the France midfielder to sign a new
contract in Italy.
Mourinho
would not deny United’s interest in a player who left United for
nothing in 2012, but insists there are three targets who fit the
‘profile’ of the fourth summer signing he wants to complete his
rebuilding job at Old Trafford.
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho said he could not confirm or deny those reports on Paul Pogba
Pogba's future at Juventus has been the subject of the transfer window with a mooted return to United
Mourinho said the board are dong a fantastic job, and the job is 75 per cent done having signed three players
Nemanja
Matic, who played under Mourinho at Chelsea, is believed to be one of
the options, with Paris Saint-Germain’s Blaise Matuidi another.
Speaking
about his interest in Pogba before United’s pre-season game against
Borussia Dortmund in Shanghai on Friday, Mourinho said: ‘I don't confirm
and I don't deny. I cannot tell.
'First
of all, because I don't think it’s correct to speak about players from
other clubs. He's a Juventus player, not a Manchester United player.
‘The only thing I can say is that my board, my directors, did fantastic work to do 75 per cent of the job I asked them to do.
Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic is believed to be one of the other two potential transfer targets for United
Pogba won the FA Youth Cup with United at 2011 before leaving on a free transfer but he could now return
United are looking at three central midfielders they are chasing and will move elsewhere if they fail with Pogba
‘I
asked them for four profiles of players. I gave them a few options and
they did for me 75 per cent of the job in (Zlatan) Ibrahimovic,
(Henrikh) Mkhitayran and (Eric) Bailly, and we just have 25 per cent to
do before August 31.
'So we are in a great conditions to do what I consider will be a great market for us.
‘So
we are calm, we know the profile of player want and we have three faces
to fill that profile. I am really confident Mr Woodward and the owners
will get the profile of player that think the squad needs to have a good
balance.’
Mourinho will be making several phone calls over the next month as he looks to complete his transfer activity
