We Have Honoured You: A Piece From The Other Realm

I had a privileged talk, in a series of mental images taking place in my sleep, with the Governor of Kogi State, Alh. Yahaya Bello and below was my charge to him:

“Adayi, we have honoured you by supporting your administration to the brim, honour us by delivering on your campaign promises and even more”

I wouldn’t know if I could muster the courage to utter this charge, though I think I could. However, it’s so true that the Governor will earn himself a place in our heart if he is anywhere close to his campaign promises and the ideologies behind the formation of his party, the APC. His name will be printed boldly in the sands of time of how he transformed a near-comatose state to an Eldorado even in the midst of dwindling oil revenue. This will, of course, also project him in green light for his future aspirations.

His Excellency’s mouthwatering action plans awaiting implementation will undoubtedly catapult us triple-steps into development. A lot was penned down for instance in the Education Sector; free meal voucher, cash grants (conditional), scholarship and child-health intervention etc. We all know for fact, these things are lacking and fixing them will send his name across the spines of every Kogites, including his critics. Our institutions of learning are waiting to be furnished with the necessary equipment to be able to churn out sound citizens who are capable of rubbing shoulders with their peers from other institutions in the Labour market.

Our health system is also awaiting an urgent overhaul and I’m glad His Excellency has gone round to acquire first-hand information of our hospitals, inspecting the facilities available for immediate and long time actions. We are hopeful of reputable hospitals tailored alongside international standards spread across the districts of Kogi State while ensuring capable personnel to run the affairs. The Cottage hospital projects which is currently at the implementation stage and other health policies of the previous administration should be inspected with a view of guiding them through adjustment and/or total implementation.

Vocational Business Hub (VBH), a strategy under Job Creation will engage an army of youth in entrepreneurship and vocational skills, which in turn adequately prepare them for the future. Though we are yet to be handy with the administration’s operational blueprint which should detailed the ‘how’ of the strategies under youth empowerment, yet we are sure all hands are actively on deck to begin implementation. It’s a youth for youth engagement.

Agriculture is obviously the new way to go in diversifying the nation’s economy and given the potentials available for us, many will be gainfully engaged in that sector if the government is willing to assist with adequate training and incentives for start-up. Also, our untapped natural resources are there to be developed which in turns create jobs for the teaming youth.

It’s been a while I tour the city of Lokoja, the capital city of Kogi State and from my last experience of the infrastructural decay raging from bad roads to inadequate water supply and even defaced government structures, urgent aide is needed to refurbish the infrastructures while building befitting ones. It’s my hope that when next I visit, things would have changed rapidly within the few period the administration came on board. Effort would have also been injected to open the commercial hubs of the state – Okene, Anyinba and Kabba – to rapid development.

I’ve carefully beam a ray through the action plans that captivated many to support the administration of Governor Yahaya Bello and this was premised on my charge for him to honour us with an unprecedented achievements to earn a place in our heart. It’s my desire to see these achievements happening with the least time lag.

God bless Kogi State
